About Me

PEDIATRICIAN AND INTERNATIONAL BOARD-CERTIFIED LACTATION CONSULTANT – MBBS, DNB (PEDIATRICS), IBCLC

Hi! I’m Dr. Mubaraka. I’m a pediatrician, a lactation consultant, and a mom. I studied MBBS at BJGMC Pune, and then pursued DNB Pediatrics at Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital, Mumbai (now Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mumbai). After completing my post-graduation, I started practicing as a pediatrician in Nagpur.

Even during my post-graduate years, I was interested in breastfeeding. However, I didn’t realize how much effort it truly requires. Breastfeeding is taught very superficially in both pediatric and obstetrics-gynecology specialties. This is not just an issue in India, but a common aspect of medical education systems worldwide.

During my pregnancy, I was confident that breastfeeding would be a cakewalk for me. However, after the birth of my baby, I realized it was actually a very tough tightrope walk!

My baby went into the NICU, and I spiraled downward. I had to ride the postpartum emotional roller coaster while healing physically and dealing with the separation from my baby and NICU visits. The realization hit me hard—I was not prepared for my breastfeeding journey.

I started seeking more help, information, and resources. I worked briefly with a lactation consultant, and after much effort, my breastfeeding journey finally felt on track—albeit about 6-7 weeks post-delivery.

It was during this time that I realized new mothers need much more support and guidance during early postpartum and beyond to begin, sustain, and succeed at breastfeeding.

That’s when I decided to prepare to become an IBCLC. And I have loved every moment of my journey thus far. I am now practicing as a pediatrician and as a lactation consultant in Nagpur. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to help many families define their breastfeeding goals and work towards it with determination and compassion.

MY GOAL

Yes! Breastfeeding is a natural process, and for many women, all they need to do is bring their baby near the breast. However, for many  women, it does not come so naturally and easily. It’s time we acknowledge this and offer much more help to these women.

If you are pregnant or postpartum and need help with feeding your baby, I am here to support you.
